Important Chayim Aruchim meeting with the Jewish Hospital Patient Liasion Group (JHPLG).
An important gathering took place in Brooklyn Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Chayim Aruchim a project of Agudath Israel of America hosted a gathering of the prestigious JHPLG which consists of frum patient liasions to almost all major hospitals in the NY/NJ area.
The meeting was held at Seville Manor in Boro Park. An elegant hot dinner was served while the participants listened to new medical and legal information regarding life as well as end of life according to Halacha and discussed ideas and brand new concepts how to improve service to the observant constituencies.
Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz who chaired the event opened with a devar torah of Reb Moshe Feinstein ZTâ€L, from Dorosh Moshe explaining how the Torah values an â€individual life†above the needs of the society in general. It is obvious that Reb Moshe understood 25 years ago the challenges we face today.
Dr. Howard Lebowitz, Chief Medical Officer of ACHS in Lakewood, NJ shared critical medical information and was followed by Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel Executive VP of Agudath Israel of America. Rabbi Gedaliah Weinberger, Founding Board Member of Chayim Aruchim emphasised on legal and practical issues and advice, explained the initiatives that were taken to pass new laws, clarified some of the old laws related to patient rights and discussed plans for the future.
After a speech by Mr. Shlomo Rosenberg the patient liasion at Montifiore Medical Center a Q&A session was held at which Mr. Dan Czermak the CEO of ACHS offered continuing financial support to the future undertaking of the JHPLG.
The meeting was also attended by Rabbi A. D. Motzen of AIA National Office; representatives of the MJHS Hospice which is guided by Chayim Aruchim; Rivie Schwebel an active Chayim Aruchim board member and Shimmie Falik representing Leisure Chateau.
It was clear at the closing of the meeting that this gathering and the follow-up action will go a long way to save and improve Jewish Life.
Chayim Aruchim is thankful to the leadership of the JHPLG for their assistance to make this event possible.
